Germinomas Markers

Germinomas are neoplasia (commonly referred to as cancers or tumors) which most closely resemble germ line cells. These types of neoplasia are usually found in the testes or ovaries. Germinoma found outside these areas may be referred to as dysgerminomas. Germinomas are germ cell tumors that do not have the ability to differentiate.

PLAP (placental alkaline phosphatase)

  • a clinically useful tumor marker for primary intracranial germinoma. PMID: 3357030

s-kit

  • could be a novel tumor marker for CNS germinomas. In addition, the diffuse expression of c-kit suggests that it may serve as a possible molecular target in the treatment of CNS germinomas. PMID: 14505850
