Caspase-1 Antibody Review

Introduction

  • also known as IL-1 beta-converting enzyme (ICE), is the intracellular protease that cleaves the precursors of IL-1 beta and IL-18 into active cytokines. PMID: 11606779, PMID: 11345139, PMID: 10403737

  • plays a role in retinal neuronal apoptosis. PMID: 17013693

  • responsible for processing inflammatory cytokines and is associated with the induction of apoptosis. PMID: 11997061

  • play a crucial role in the triggering and execution of apoptosis in a variety of cell types. PMID: 11985974

  • plays a pivotal role in immune-mediated inflammation, as it regulates the cellular export of IL-1beta and IL-18. PMID: 11956027

Normal Expression

  • Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that the pattern of protein expression and distribution was uniformly homogeneous in the normal prostate, with the epithelial cells exhibiting a diffuse cytoplasmic staining for caspase-1 and caspase-3. PMID: 11221855

  • normal colonic epithelium strongly expressed caspase 1, both at the mRNA level and at the protein level in its latent form. In contrast, caspase 1 was not expressed in colon cancer (primary colonic adenocarcinomas and cancer cell lines). PMID: 10403737

Abnormal Expression

  • expression level of caspase-1 in both epithelial cells and interstitial cells of the hyperplastic prostate tissues was obviously lower than that of the normal prostate tissues. PMID: 16333955

  • Pancreatic cancer tissues showed a clear cytoplasmatic overexpression of Caspase-1 in tumor cells of 71% of the tumors, whereas normal pancreatic tissues showed only occasional immunoreactivity. PMID: 14669344

  • a clear expression of caspase-1 in chronic pancreatitis, but not in normal pancreatic tissues. PMID: 11345139

  • a 17-fold increase in caspase-1 activity in traumatized spinal cord samples when compared with samples from sham-operated mice. PMID: 10938439

Expression Alteration

  • High cholesterol diet results in increased expression of interleukin-6 and caspase-1 in the brain of apolipoprotein E knockout and wild type mice. PMID: 16198427

  • Up-regulating of caspase-1 expression was found in tissue from traumatic brain injury compared with controls in early 1 hour after TBI, and lasted for 2 weeks. PMID: 12725156

  • cytoplasmic caspase-1 expression was sharply increased in the resident oligodendrocytes of MS lesions. PMID: 11997061

  • Intranuclear huntingtin increases the expression of caspase-1 and induces apoptosis. PMID: 11092762

Function

  • Retinal neuronal apoptosis was less prominent in Casp1 knockout mice after excessive light exposure and ischemia-reperfusion injury. These data indicate that caspase-1 plays a role in retinal neuronal apoptosis. PMID: 17013693

  • may promote host cell survival as a means of resistance to pathogenic bacteria. PMID: 16990128

  • a critical role for the cytokine IL-1beta and caspase 1 rapidly released by activated microglia in enhancing nociceptive transmission in spinal cord inflammation. PMID: 16942597

  • important in the host response to sepsis at least in part via its ability to regulate sepsis-induced splenic cell apoptosis. PMID: 16908867

  • enhances the apoptotic response of prostate cancer cells to ionizing radiation. PMID: 15274298

  • participates in Fas-mediated apoptosis of epithelial cells by initiating the caspase cascade. PMID: 11495719

  • the expression of caspase-1 is a frequent event in chronic pancreatitis and its distribution pattern may reflect two functions of this protease: on one hand its participation in the apoptotic pathway in atrophic acinar cells and, on the other hand, its role in proliferation and differentiation in proliferating duct cells. PMID: 11345139

  • may play a central role in the regulation of Langerhans cell (LC) migration. PMID: 11238606

  • potentially involved in anti-apoptotic processes in pancreatic carcinoma. PMID: 11226429

  • the first demonstration of caspase-1 and caspase-3 transcriptional regulation in a Huntington disease model. PMID: 10888929
